City Officials to Meet with Peninsula Businesses Regarding People Experiencing Homelessness

City of Charleston Staff are inviting King Street and downtown merchants to discuss residency issues and their impact on the district Thursday, March 8 from 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. at Halls Signature Events, 5 Faber Street, just off East bay Street and directly behind SNOB.

Charleston’s homeless and vagrancy issues affect downtown stores, galleries and other businesses on King Street and around the peninsula.
  • What are your rights as a business owner?
  • What are their rights?
  • What can the City do to support businesses on public streets?
  • Is anyone addressing these problems?
Key City of Charleston staff will be in attendance to share current statistics, discuss strategies, and detail City efforts surrounding this issue. Representatives will include:
  • Charleston Police Department
  • Housing and Community Development Department
  • Livability and Tourism Department
  • Business and Neighborhood Services Division
