City Park Rangers to Host Lantern Parade, New Year’s Eve Walk

The City of Columbia’s Parks Rangers will host a variety of activities to encourage the public to explore the outdoors and celebrate the first day of winter during the month of December.

Both youth and adults can participate in the following free activities sponsored by the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department:

Winter Solstice Lantern Parade and Celebration | Thursday, December 21 | 5-8 pm

Join the City’s Park Rangers for a Winter Solstice Celebration. Rangers will hold a lantern parade at sunset (5:19) from the Red Schoolhouse, across the Columbia Canal and into the brick amphitheater.  Mingle with the Park Rangers, sip hot cocoa and warm your hands over a warm fire.

Meet at the Red Schoolhouse at the south end of Riverfront Park, 312 Laurel Street.

 

Last Day Leg Stretch | Sunday, December 31 | 1-2:30 pm

Admire the views and learn about Riverfront Park’s rich natural history on this New Year’s Eve walk.

Meet at the Red Schoolhouse at the south end of Riverfront Park, 312 Laurel Street.

 

Guests are encouraged to dress comfortably, bring binoculars and field guides as well as any essentials like water, sunscreen, insect repellent and sturdy walking footwear.
