City Roots is in the Running for Two National Contests

COLUMBIA, SC – November 28, 2012 – City Roots, an urban farm located in downtown Columbia, has been selected as one of 10 national finalists in Green America’s People & Planet Award forGreen Businesses rewarding green businesses for their contributions to a just and sustainable economy.  The top three nominees receiving the most online votes will receive a $5,000 award.

Opened in 2009 by father and son, Robbie and Eric McClam, the 3.5 acre farm is located in Columbia’s Rosewood Neighborhood, 1005 Airport Blvd. It features 75 varieties of fruits and vegetables. City Roots Farm does crop rotations and cover cropping for soil fertility and pest management.  The farm also has a large composting operation.

Eric is also one of nine finalists chosen out of more than 100 applicants in the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance’s (USFRA) search for the “Faces of Farming and Ranching” national spokesperson.
