City update on sandbags, parking for tropical storm Hermine
September 1, 2016The City of Charleston has a limited number of free sandbags available to assist residents who anticipate localized flooding. The sandbags may be picked up from two locations:
- City of Charleston Bees Ferry Fire Station at 1985 Bees Ferry Road, where sandbags can be picked up until dusk Thursday night. This location will open again at 7:00 a.m. Friday morning.
- Also, residents may pick up sandbags from the Milford Street Public Works Operations Complex at 2150 Milford Street, which will be open until 7:00 p.m. Thursday night. This location will open again at 7:30 a.m.Friday morning. Enter the first gate on the right hand side and proceed to the rear of the complex.
Residents are limited to 15 sandbags per household.
Sandbags can be purchased at any Lowes in the Charleston area.
Residents who live in flood prone areas within the City may park their vehicles free at the City of Charleston Aquarium parking garage located at 24 Calhoun Street beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016. Cars must be removed by noon on Saturday, September 3. Residents should take a parking ticket from the machine, proceed to the top two decks to park and, when checking out, be prepared to show proof of residency to the attendant.
