City uses state funds to accelerate road safety improvements

Thanks to a one-time matching program funded by state gas tax, Greenville will receive $7.5 million to make streets safer, bringing the total capital budget for a dozen projects to $15.8 million.
City Engineer Paul Dow said five sidewalk and street improvement projects are cued to begin this spring:
- Phase 2 of the Augusta Street Safety Project, improving traffic flow and reducing vehicle conflict points
- Sidewalks at:
- Keith Drive, from Woodlark Street to North Pleasantburg Drive
- Henderson Road, from High Croft Subdivision to Wembley Road
- Wembley Road, from Henderson Road to Shelburne Road
- Lowndes Hill Road, from E North Street to Keith Drive
“We basically are able to double the number of projects we can do,” City Manager Shannon Lavrin said.
