COLUMBIA, SC – City Year Columbia has a new Operations Manager. Ms. Kaitlin Nichols joined the City Year Columbia staff on November 3, 2014.

Previously, Kaitlin served with City Year Columbia as an AmeriCorps member at W.A. Perry Middle School in Richland School District One, volunteering full-time as a 6th grade Math and ELA tutor. The following year, she served as the Team Leader for the City Year team at Sandhills Elementary School in Lexington School District Four, leading a diverse team of seven through their service year as tutors and mentors. She was also featured in the September 2013 Columbia Metropolitan magazine article about City Year Columbia, “Twenty Years of Changing the Future for Midlands Students.” Since then, she has been managing an Education Outreach Program at local nonprofit, The Edgewood Foundation, and supporting City Year Columbia’s Strengthening Families Program.

After graduating with honors from Clemson University in 2011 with a B.A. in Sociology, Kaitlin moved to Columbia, SC to pursue a career in corporate advertising. After gaining experience in managing 70+ corporate accounts, planning events, and executing marketing campaigns, Kaitlin chose to take her talents to the nonprofit world.

She is absolutely thrilled to have returned to the City Year Columbia team, and is eager to utilize her skills in making a positive impact on the Midlands. Kaitlin is committed to supporting City Year’s mission of being an international education-focused nonprofit that partners with local schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate. She looks forward to working closely with school, service, and business partners in supporting the positive impact of students here in Columbia. Gail Wilson-Giarratano, Executive Director and VP said, “We are very excited to welcome Kaitlin back to the City Year Columbia family. She brings to us and the community tremendous experience and knowledge, and is respected throughout the City Year network. She truly shares our vision, passion, and above all, our commitment to the belief that every child can succeed.”

In addition to overseeing day to day operations, Kaitlin will be coordinating the site’s events, community relations and school tours programs to raise awareness and support for the impactful work of our 24 dedicated AmeriCorps members here at City Year Columbia in both Richland One and Lexington Four school districts.
