Clemson’s Pennell Center recognized by women’s real estate organization

CLEMSON, SC – April 13, 2012 – Clemson University’s Richard H. Pennell Center for Real Estate Development received the 2012 Outstanding Leadership Organization Award from CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Upstate South Carolina in recognition of the center’s advancement of women in the commercial real estate industry.
Founded in 1889, CREW is a networking organization geared towardsupporting women in the field of commercial real estate. It has morethan 8,000 members and is located in 74 major markets in North America.
“Clemson University’s Pennell Center for Real Estate Developmentcollaborates with organizations across the Upstate, including CREW, tobring high-quality programming and advanced networking opportunities,”said Maurie Lawrence of Wyche, past president of CREW. “The PennellCenter graduates women who positively contribute to the commercial realestate industry at the highest levels. The center demonstrates a realcommitment to advancing women and therefore advancing the success of thecommercial real estate industry as a whole.”
Housed in the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities, theRichard H. Pennell Center seeks to combine education with research andoutreach programs to enhance the real estate profession and expand thereputation of Clemson University as a leader in the real estateindustry.
The award was given to the center in recognition of its extensiveefforts to engage women and minorities in the male-dominated commercialreal estate industry.
“Role models are essential in the real estate disciplines, and CREWplays an important role in our efforts to recruit and retain qualitygraduate students and faculty members as well as to place our studentsin long-term careers in the real estate profession.
