Clemson comptroller appointed to Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council

CLEMSON, SC – February 8, 2012 – Clemson University comptroller Charles A. Tegen has beenappointed to serve on the Governmental Accounting Standards AdvisoryCouncil (GASAC).

The 30-member council provides input to the Governmental AccountingStandards Board, the independent, not-for-profit board that establishesand improves accounting standards used in federal, state and localgovernmental accounting and financial reporting.

Nominated to the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Councilpost by the National Association of College and University BusinessOfficers, Tegen has been in his current role since 1991. Prior to that,he served Clemson in the finance and internal audit areas. Beforejoining Clemson, he was a senior auditor with a local public accountingfirm.

Tegen currently serves on the National Association of College andUniversity Business Officers board of directors. In 2004, he was awardedthe organization’s Daniel D. Robinson Award, which recognizesexcellence and leadership of an individual who demonstrates a continuouscommitment to the advancement of college and university accounting andreporting.

In his role with the Governmental Accounting Standards AdvisoryCouncil, Tegen joins other members who are broadly representative ofpreparers, auditors and users of financial information. The council isresponsible for consulting with the Governmental Accounting StandardsBoard on technical issues on the board’s agenda, project priorities,matters likely to require the board’s attention, selection andorganization of task forces, and such other matters as may be requestedby the board or its chairman.

Tegen’s term on the Governmental Accounting Standards Advisory Council extends until Dec. 31, 2013.

Tegen earned his bachelor’s in businessadministration from Southern Wesleyan University in Central and a Masterof Professional Accountancy degree from Clemson. He lives in Central.
