Clemson MBA program schedules unique career fair

January 24, 2011

CLEMSON, SC – January 24, 2011 – MBA students at Clemson University will participate in a unique career fair beginning at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Clemson at the Falls in downtown Greenville.

Instead of the traditional booths set up by businesses for job seekers to visit, the MBA Networking Forum provides the opportunity for each student and company representative to meet one-on-one in private offices.

“This event is more of a networking type of event than a standard job fair,” said Gail DePriest, director of corporate relations and career management for the MBA program. “Each student will have an opportunity to meet individually with each participating company in private offices.”

Nearly two dozen regional companies are scheduled to participate, including BMW, BB&T, Michelin, ScanSource and Hubbell Lighting.

“The Clemson MBA Program is personally involved in making sure each student receives career counseling and support as they seek that perfect job, said Greg Pickett, interim associate dean for Clemson at the Falls. To this end, we offer resume development help, one-on-one career counseling and a host of opportunities for students to connect to the business community. This is one of many examples where students can network with firms to begin the process of landing not just a job, but a career.”

Last year, 42 students interviewed with companies during the networking forum and 13 successfully secure some type of internship or part-time employment. Five were employed full time as a result, according to DePriest.
