Clinton Community Rallies to Support Businesses Displaced by Devastating Downtown Fire

August 31, 2024

On August 27th, a catastrophic fire swept through downtown Clinton, leaving several cherished small businesses in ruins. These businesses, integral to the community’s fabric, provided not only goods and services but also jobs and a deep sense of local pride.

The fire, which is believed to have started on the deck of the House of Pizza, quickly escalated, endangering nearby businesses and the historic downtown area. Firefighters from the Clinton Fire Department, along with more than ten fire departments from across Laurens County and as far as Greenville, battled tirelessly to contain the blaze. Their heroic efforts prevented further devastation, but the damage to the community is still profound.

In the wake of this tragedy, Clinton’s resilience is shining through.

The community is rallying to support the business owners and employees who have lost their livelihoods. Although the road to recovery will be long, Clinton’s unwavering spirit assures that the town will emerge stronger than ever.

Main Street Clinton, in collaboration with the City of Clinton and the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce, has launched a coordinated effort to support the affected businesses and aid in the broader recovery and revitalization of the historic downtown area.

Jim Spry, Director of Main Street Clinton and a business owner impacted by the fire, expressed his gratitude for the community’s swift response. “The support from our community has been overwhelming. This fire has tested us in ways we never expected, but the resilience of Clinton is unmatched. We are determined to rebuild and bring back the vibrancy that makes our downtown so special.”

Clinton Mayor Randy Randall also spoke about the community’s response, saying, “This fire was a devastating blow to our downtown, but the outpouring of support we’ve seen is nothing short of incredible. Clinton has always been a town where people come together in times of need, and this is no exception. We’re committed to rebuilding and ensuring our downtown continues to be a source of pride for everyone.”
