Clinton High Cross Country Team Runs for Charity
July 5, 2023And that’s a wrap! The seventh annual running of the cans is in the books and the winner is the community.
A tradition since 2017, the Clinton High Cross Country team collects canned goods and other non-perishables during the month of June and then last Thursday practice in June, each member of the XC team took two cans and ran them to the Open-Door Ministries to help restock the food pantry at Geraldine’s Kitchen.
The 2023 Running of the Cans was held on June 29. Members of the Clinton High Cross Country team loaded up with cans and took off running. The end destination was the Open Door Ministries in Clinton.
“According to the gentleman who accepted the contributions from the team, several individuals had been dropping off goods during the week. Not sure if it’s coincidence, or if folks thought it was easier dropping off their donations at their convenience was better than dropping them off at the high school,” said Coach Lee Atkinson. “For us, it doesn’t really matter. We’re glad to continue this community project and to know that the community sees a need and are willing to helo!”
The team delivered over 300 items and it is estimated that they have donated close to 2000 items over the last 7 years.
