Born and raised in Clinton, Anna’s family has both local and diverse roots. Her mother, Jayne Hamrick, hails from Clinton, while her father, Randy Litzenberger, graduated high school in Wilton, California, eventually making his way to the east coast where he met Anna’s mother. Anna’s stepmother, Stephanie Ahn, is from Greenwood, and the family connection extends to various parts of the country. In addition to her family support, Anna attributes her success to divine guidance, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and giving all glory to God.
A Well-Rounded High School Journey
Anna’s high school journey at Clinton High School has been filled with academic success and a variety of sports. Engaging in sports like volleyball, basketball, softball, and eventually cross country, Anna showcased her athleticism and commitment to physical fitness. However, her true passion lies in the realm of academics, particularly in her involvement with the Science Olympiad. This extracurricular activity not only opened doors to the world of science and math but also fueled her desire to attend the Naval Academy.
Aside from sports and academics, Anna enjoys working out, photography, and cooking, reflecting her multifaceted interests beyond the academic sphere.
Naval Academy Dream: A Family Legacy
Anna’s interest in the Naval Academy stems from her family’s military background. While growing up in a Navy family, Anna felt a natural calling to follow in their footsteps and serve her country. The dream of attending the USNA crystallized at the age of 13 when she started researching the life of a midshipman. Envisioning herself in a community where everyone strives for a common goal resonated deeply with Anna, making the Naval Academy her dream school.
The Rigorous Application Process
Anna’s journey towards the Naval Academy wasn’t without challenges. Starting the application process in April of 2023, she navigated through various requirements, including interviews with a Blue and Gold officer, medical examinations with the Department of Defense’s Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB), and a fitness assessment known as the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA). The culmination of her efforts came with a Congressional nomination from Congressman Jeff Duncan, solidifying her path to the USNA.
The Select Few: Acceptance and Aspirations
With an acceptance rate of 9-10% based on the class of 2027 statostics, Anna stands among the select few who secured a spot in the USNA class of 2028. The academy seeks well-rounded candidates with leadership experience, emphasizing academic excellence and a commitment to challenging coursework. Anna’s dedication to maintaining high grades and her involvement in the Science Olympiad contributed to her successful application.
A Legacy of Service
Anna’s family boasts a rich history of military service. Her father enlisted and served six years in the Navy, and her two older brothers are enlisted in the Navy, with her oldest brother, Ryan, currently serving at the rank of chief after ten years of service. Her other brother, Gabe has been in for about five years and is a second class petty officer. Anna’s grandfathers served in the Marines and the Air Force, adding to the family’s tradition of military service. Lastly, her aunt, Diane Hamrick, achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force and served as a flight surgeon. She has had an immense impact on Anna’s life.
Charting the Course Ahead
Looking ahead, Anna envisions a career in the Navy that aligns with her academic pursuits. Considering Naval Nuclear Power School and aspiring to serve as a Submariner or Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Anna carries with her the support of her family and the entire Clinton community.
