Clinton Native to Open Art Venue in Downtown Clinton
February 27, 2023Clinton will soon be home to a new art studio concept which will be known as The Makery.
Andrea Ivey Curtis, a Clinton native and graduate of Clinton High School recently announced the opening of The Makery. The studio will be located at 105 W. Pitts Street in Clinton.
A lifetime “crafter” herself, Curtis has a vision to create an art gallery/retail space where local artists can sell items and a studio space where workshops can be held to lead people through a hands-on art activity that they can make and take home.
“My parents, Carolyn & Eddie Ivey, have always been crafters. It has been a dream to open a studio like this for a few years,” said Curtis. “I love arts and crafts; I love talking to people and I love Clinton. This studio merges all these loves together.”
Still in the early stages, the plan is to fully open in April with hours to be determined but open Wednesday – Saturday with the possibility of Sunday afternoon for special events and private parties.
Offerings for classes are still being developed and will evolve over time based on requests. Some classes will be led by Curtis and others will be led by other artisans with specific expertise. There will be classes for adults and for kids.
“I’m excited about opening the studio but must admit that stepping out to do this is scary,” said Curtis. “But I love this community and want to see it blossom and if I can be a small part of that, I’d be thrilled.”
Curtis is a certified Ultrasound Technologist and works for Prisma Health Fertility Center of the Carolinas. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Stacy (1987 CHS graduate) and they have two boys, Sam (senior) and Henry (junior).
