Clinton Wrestlers Compete at State Tournament

February 23, 2025

Eight Clinton High School wrestlers qualified for the South Carolina High School League (SCHSL) State Wrestling Championships, showcasing their talent and determination on the mat. The tournament, held this weekend, tested the skills of some of the state’s best wrestlers, with Clinton sending a mix of experienced upperclassmen and promising underclassmen to compete.

According to Head Coach Andrew Wright, Clinton’s team featured seven underclassmen and one senior. Although the competition was fierce, several wrestlers secured multiple victories.

Sophomores Cooper Stinson, Prince Bluford, Emmanuel Lagroon, and Henry Cody all went 2-2 in their respective brackets, demonstrating resilience and growth as they faced some of the toughest opponents in the state.

Freshmen Owen and Rylan Lawton, junior Camron Jackson, and senior Jackson Wooten finished 0-2 but gained valuable experience at the highest level of high school wrestling.

“Getting to the state tournament is a huge accomplishment,” said Coach Wright. “For such a young group, this experience will only make them stronger for the future. I’m proud of the way they competed, and I know they’ll come back even better next year.”

With a team largely made up of underclassmen, Clinton’s wrestling program has a bright future. The experience gained at this year’s state tournament will serve as a stepping stone as the team looks to build upon its success in the coming seasons.
