Coker College hires new faculty members

Dr. Susan Daniels Henderson, Associate Provost and Dean of the Faculty of Coker College, has announced the addition of nine full-time faculty members for the 2016-2017 academic year: Dr. Julie Bryant, Kyria Flynn, Dr. Casey Gilewski, Dr. Valerie Granger, Nate Gulledge, Dr. Brian Heslop, Danny Malone, Dr. Dustin Ousley and Alyssa Prince.
“We are indeed delighted to have these new faculty members at Coker College,” said Henderson. “They bring such a rich background of experiences and expertise, and have already begun making a difference on the Coker campus.”
Bryant is assistant professor of education. She worked most recently as an advanced education administrator and literacy coordinator for New Mexico’s public education department. She holds a doctorate in philosophy, language, literacy and sociocultural studies from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque and a master’s degree in education from the University of Alaska Anchorage.
Flynn is lecturer of psychology. She worked most recently as a clinical counselor intern for ALPHA Behavioral Health Center in Camden. She holds a master’s degree in applied psychology (clinical/counseling psychology) from Francis Marion University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a concentration in counseling from Coker College.
Gilewski is assistant professor of education. She worked most recently as a graduate teaching assistant and research assistant for the University of Memphis’s College of Education’s instruction and curriculum leadership department, as well as a peer power success coach at Whitehaven High School in Memphis, Tenn. She holds a doctorate in education, instruction and curriculum leadership–elementary education–from the University of Memphis and a master’s degree in curriculum instruction from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark.
Granger is assistant professor of math and the director of the Quantitative Literacy Center. She worked most recently as a teaching assistant in the mathematics department for the University of Missouri, where she also received her doctorate and master’s degree in mathematics.
Gulledge is assistant professor of art. He worked most recently as a design instructor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. He holds a master’s degree in graphic design from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Md., and a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from Coker College.
Heslop is assistant professor of communication. He worked most recently as an assistant professor of communication studies at Kutztown University in Kutztown, Pa. He holds a doctorate in communication from the University of Memphis and a master’s degree in professional communication from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah.
Malone is assistant professor of sociology and criminology. He worked most recently as an instructor in the sociology department at Texas A&M University, which is where he received his master’s degree in sociology and is working towards his doctorate, also in sociology.
Ousley is assistant professor of music. He worked most recently as an adjunct professor of music at Coker College. He holds a doctorate in the musical arts in choral conducting from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in music in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, N.C.
Prince is visiting assistant professor of art. She worked most recently as a lecturer of visual art at Penn State Altoona. She holds a master’s degree in painting emphasis from Clemson University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.
