Colleen Carr selected to lead Simmons-Pinckney Middle

September 30, 2024

Charleston County School District (CCSD) announced Colleen Carr as Interim Principal at Simmons-Pinckney Middle School. Carr has served as the district’s Director of Acceleration Schools since 2022. At her request, current Simmons-Pinckney Middle Principal Stephanie Spann has moved to a new chapter of her career and will serve in another leadership position within the district. We are grateful to Ms. Spann for her dedication and service to the Simmons Pinckney Family.

Carr brings nearly 25 years of experience to the position having joined CCSD from Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) where she served as a Principal on Special Assignment for the HCPS Transformation Network.

Prior to her time in the Transformation Network, Carr served as assistant principal and principal of HCPS’ largest middle school, Beth Shields Middle, with a diverse population of over 1,800 students. While serving Beth Shields Middle as principal during the global pandemic (2019-2021), Carr was instrumental in not only leading the school in a shift from in-person to virtual learning but was also successful in cultivating and marketing a climate and culture for learning which led to the school’s establishment of HCPS’ first Scholar Quest Academy.

Additionally, Carr fostered and grew a one-of-a-kind accelerated program at Shields where students could earn up to 13 high school credits and complete their foreign language requirement prior to reaching high school. She also retained ninety percent of her school’s talent during her tenure and created a sixth-grade academy on-site to help students better transition to middle school.
