January 31, 2024

A.C. Flora High School has been awarded the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science classes.

A.C. Flora was one of 1,127 schools nationwide with 50% percent or higher female representation in either AP Computer Science A or AP Computer Science Principles during the 2022-2023 school year.

The school received the award in the AP Computer Science Principles category. According to the College Board, the course gives students a comprehensive introduction to computer science.

“More of our female students are becoming interested in the field of computer science. This award shows our school’s commitment to diversity in our computer science courses as well as increasing STEM opportunities for young women,” said A.C. Flora Principal Susan Childs. “We hope that the female students who take AP Computer Science Principles are able to go into computer science careers after graduating from A.C. Flora and college.”
