College View Parade Brings Patriotism and Community to Life
July 4, 2023You can go to the big gatherings with bands and fancy fireworks and have an amazing time, but nothing says Independence Day like a local neighborhood parade.
The College View Community of Clinton celebrated America in style this July 4th with their annual parade in what was the 23rd year of the tradition.
But the event is much more than the parade.
It underscores patriotism and the integral role of community service, a value deeply ingrained across America. Very Rockwellesque, it is the quintessential picture of the great life that is small-town-America. Neighbors who know each other and care for each other. They come together from different homes, lifestyles and backgrounds to celebrate Independence Day.
Each year the size of the parade varies with some neighbors on vacation but there is always a happy group of kids and adults who gather in the 300 block of Hickory Street in Clinton with decorated bikes, scooters, and golf carts ready to participate in the one block parade.
The charm of a local neighborhood parade like the one in the College View Community of Clinton is perfectly complemented by the festive touch of decorated golf carts. These vibrant additions to the parade bring an extra layer of fun and excitement, embodying the spirit of community and celebration. Originally organized by Chuck and Jean Gaines, the event starts in the middle of the 300 block of Hickory Street. Before the parade there was an opening prayer followed by remarks from Clinton Mayor Randy Randall and the singing of the National Anthem by everyone.
The parade was led by a Clinton Police car followed by a Clinton Fire Department fire truck (think lights and sirens) and then the most enthusiastic and excited bunch of children with their blinged out bikes and scooters. Sprinkled into the parade line were a few blinged out golf carts and patriotic adults.
“It is always such an honor to attend and participate in this neighborhood parade,” said Clinton Police Chief Sonny Ledda. “As the son of immigrants, I came to America at the age of four and learned from the beginning what a great nation this is full of opportunities for everyone. I have proudly served this great nation in the U.S. Army, and it warms my heart to see such wonderful displays of patriotism and community.”
