Retail market shows signs of easing after breakneck pace

Market Highlights

After several years of robust demand and consistently low vacancy, retail markets across South Carolina began to show modest signs of softening as leasing slowed and larger vacancies opened by bankruptcies in prior quarters were slower to backfill. Despite this, the market remains healthy as vacancy remains low overall and rents are rising with coastal markets seeing the greatest gains. South Carolina’s resilient economy has weathered national economic headwinds thus far, posting the nation’s highest year-over-year GDP growth at 1.7%.
