Colliers represents seller in deal to open a school for the special needs community in the Midlands

Colliers | South Carolina’s Mary Winter Teaster and Sydney Lanham represented MIRCI in the sale of a 3,600-square-foot freestanding building to Opa’s Learning Academy, located at 1433 Gregg Street in Downtown Columbia.
Opa’s Learning Academy is set to open in Fall 2026, with a mission to support the academic growth and life skills of students with physical and mental disabilities. It will also provide valuable resources for parents and families. The school will begin by serving K-4 students, with planned annual growth to serve additional ages.
“We are proud to represent our seller client MIRCI in this transaction and facilitate a smooth sale to Opa’s Learning Academy. They will bring a new purpose to the building while adding great value to our Midlands community for these students,” said Lanham.
“This building has always served the needs of the community since being constructed by MIRCI in 2005 as the first homeless drop-in center in Columbia,” said Teaster, a board member of MIRCI. “It will now continue that legacy and house a one-of-a-kind school and activity center for children with physical disabilities.”
