Collins & Lacy Co-Founder to Commemorate 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta in Runnymede, England
June 11, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – Collins & Lacy, P.C. co-founder, Joel Collins, is set to travel to Runnymede, England to observe the 800th Anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, where an approximate 5,000 people are expected to be in attendance.
Collins, President of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), has been representing the organization in England and has helped orchestrate the major international celebration. He will present a commemorative plaque to the Lord Mayor of Runnymede, Derek Cotty, at a dinner banquet on June 15, 2015.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness history, not only for England, but for our nation as well,” said Collins. “Magna Carta is the bedrock of the concepts of freedom, justice, and the rule of law, exemplified by our own Constitution of the United States of America.”
While in Runnymede, Collins, along with fellow South Carolinian and President of the American Bar Association (ABA) William C. Hubbard, will attend the rededication of the ABA’s newly refurbished stone pillar memorial located along the river Thames. He will also be present for the unveiling of a statue of Queen Elizabeth, the only one of her authorized to be erected in England during her lifetime.
