Columbia’s first physical therapy practice created exclusively for women opens in Forest Acres
August 12, 2013
COLUMBIA, SC – August 12, 2013 – Combining one-on-one care with the unique conditions associated with women’s health and rehabilitative issues, Carolina Women’s Physical Therapy and Wellness (CWPTW) has opened its first treatment facility in Columbia, South Carolina. Under the leadership of Dr. Dawn Chambers-Lynch, CWPTW is the Midland’s first physical therapy practice devoted exclusively to women’s rehabilitation and wellness with an emphasis on providing an enhanced patient experience.
With nearly a decade of outpatient experience, I recognized that women could benefit from focused physical therapy in a more comforting and private setting, said Dr. Dawn Chambers-Lynch. Physical therapy in an co-ed setting can often feel intimidating for women and this can sometimes create a psychological barrier that may impede the treatment process. As a woman, I wanted to an open a practice that allows female patients to benefit from private, one–on–one treatment where they can concentrate on one thing—getting better.
Dr. Chambers-Lynch says her practice treats a host of orthopedic and sports related injuries but also specializes in medical issues specifically related to women. These conditions include osteoporosis, pre and postpartum pain as well as pelvic floor dysfunction (urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse).
CWPTW also offers another major benefit at its Forest Drive location—continuity of care. Because we’re a specialized practice, our patients have the opportunity to see the same therapist throughout their treatment process, said Lynch. This allows a patient to receive focused treatment and it allows the therapist the opportunity to better chart a patient’s progress and to make adjustments as necessary.
A graduate of Purdue University, Dr. Chambers-Lynch received her Bachelor of Arts in Movement and Sport Science. She went on to receive her Master of Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Georgia and her Doctor of Physical Therapy from A.T. Still University.
