The recent tragic death of Robin Williams forces focus on mental illness

COLUMBIA, SC – Recently, Richland County Council awarded a Richland County Discretionary Grant for Fiscal Year 2015 for $14,588 to Work in Progress, Inc. These funds will help underwrite an Employment Specialist who will assist local citizens with a diagnosis of mental illness find job opportunities.

Through referrals made through Lexington and Richland County mental health agencies, Work in Progress helps local citizens navigate the often stressful job search.

Once these individuals find a job, Work In Progress also provides ongoing support through job coaching. Through its work, the organization helps increase the self esteem of those it serves and decrease poverty in the community.

“We are very excited about working with the county to decrease poverty and increase financial stability through employment within Richland County,” says Executive Director Rosemary Hedden.
