Columbia College announces winners for O’Keeffe Juried Art Competition, A Natural Wonder

Columbia, SC — Columbia College is pleased to announce the winners of its statewide Georgia O’Keeffe K12 juried art competition: Rosewood Elementary in Columbia, The South Carolina School for the Blind in Spartanburg and Dreher High School in Columbia.
Proposals were received from schools across the state and the winners were selected based on their creativity and willingness to explore the significant nature of O’Keeffe’s Columbia College story. Each school will receive the Penland Prize of $1,000 to complete their proposal over the next few months, with works presented in a formal exhibition in the Goodall Gallery from January 8 to February 9, 2016 as part of the College’s Georgia O’Keeffe Centennial Celebration.
“We are thrilled for our annual juried art competition to be part of the College’s Georgia O’Keeffe centennial this year,” said Jackie Adams, Goodall Gallery coordinator. “O’Keeffe was not only a talented artist, but she was a dedicated art educator. We look forward to honoring this part of her life exhibiting the students’ works in the gallery this spring.”
The Georgia O’Keeffe Centennial is a year-long celebration of the artist’s transformative time as a professor of art at Columbia College in 1915. The Centennial is presented by the Michael J. Mungo Foundation in memory of Jennifer Mungo and is in partnership with the Columbia Museum of Art and South Carolina Educational Television. For more information, visitwww.ideasofmyown.com.
