Columbia Electrical Engineering firm recognized by its peers

GWA, Inc. was presented with two awards at the ACEC-SC 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards gala last night (February 7) at the Columbia Museum of Art.  

GWA received both the Small Firm Award and an Engineering Excellence Award for the new Columbia Farms Hatchery in Monetta, SC.

Columbia Farms, a subsidiary company owned and operated by House of Raeford, Inc., had chosen to use incubation, hatching, automation and ventilation equipment from Pas Reform, a European company based in The Netherlands. The first of its kind in North America, the hatchery expects production of one million quality chicks per week that will go directly to growers in the local community.

David Rush, Assistant Complex Manager, said “There was a great working relationship between Columbia Farms, GWA, the general contractor and the electrical contractor. The design was completed on time and the construction was completed on time. The design has proven to be effective and we are pleased with the energy savings that were designed into the facility. We are extremely pleased with the process and relationships we had throughout this project.”

Engineering Excellence is an annual competition recognizing engineering achievements which demonstrate the highest degree of merit and ingenuity. The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) is the voice of America’s engineering industry. Council members – numbering more than 5,000 firms representing more than 500,000 employees throughout the United States – are engaged in engineering works that propel the nation’s economy, and enhance and safeguard America’s qualify of life.
