Columbia Fire Department now seeking experienced Firefighter II certified candidates

COLUMBIA, SC – The Columbia Fire Department is now seeking experienced Firefighter II certified candidates to begin immediate firefighter shift work after a shortened 4-week job orientation course. Qualified candidates with previous firefighter work experience may be given preference. Based on skill performance evaluation, anticipated fire-shift work to begin on or about August 1st, 2015.

Candidate testing is being conducted on May 15th, and May 22nd / 23rd, 2015. Applications must be submitted and processed by City of Columbia HR by May 20th to be considered for this process cycle.

To be considered for the 4 week Firefighter II orientation course Candidates:

  • Must meet all City of Columbia hiring qualifications

  • Complete a FIREFIGHTER APPLICATION PACKET & RETURN TO: Human Resources Office – 1225 Lady Street (corner of Lady & Sumter Streets) – Columbia, SC 29201-0147.

  • Must have nationally recognized Firefighter II certification

o   IFSAC, Pro-board, or South Carolina Fire Academy equivalency

  • Must successfully pass 32 validated critical job tasks during initial 3 month probationary period.

  • Minimum advertised salary does not include scheduled FLSA overtime for 24/48 work cycle

o   $29,592 annual starting salary, $31,331 based on 24/48 work schedule

o   Additional 5% Salary increase upon successful completion of 6 month probation

o   Additional 5% salary increase available after 12 months for successful promotion to senior firefighter
