Columbia Grace Church of the Nazarene launches food drive to assist laid off workers

August 28, 2017

The Columbia Grace Church of the Nazarene announced that it will be hosting a food drive, in conjunction with Harvest Hope Food Bank, to benefit the community, including the numerous workers who have recently been laid off in the Midlands. The food drive will be held at the church from 9:00am until 3:00pm at the Columbia Grace Church of the Nazarene, which is located at 5403 Pinestraw Rd. in Columbia.

In the Midlands, nearly one in six people are food insecure, according to Feeding America data. “Many residents of our rural counties already struggle with access to food and with simply being able to afford enough to eat,” stated Jamie Peebles, Marketing Manager for Harvest Hope. “When you have  large employers shutting down suddenly, it really puts incredible stress on communities.”

Pastor Thomas Carter of the Columbia Grace Church of the Nazarene encourages individuals from around the Midlands to get involved, “We need people like you to donate food so that we all can help to stamp out hunger in our surrounding communities. Together, we will be able to help many of these families and individuals to meet essential daily needs.”

The most needed items for Harvest Hope are peanut butter, canned soups, canned meats, canned vegetables, pasta, diapers (both baby and adult), and shelf stable food. Individuals who are interested in providing donations or who wish to volunteer should contact Pastor Thomas Carter at 719-963-4260 or Carol Moser at 803-782-6327.
