Columbia Relief re-activation

September 10, 2018

Columbia Relief (formerly UofSC Relief) is beginning to reactivate in preparation for Hurricane Florence affecting South Carolina.

In recent years, Columbia Relief has managed the supply donation efforts for hurricane and natural disaster victims in Columbia, SC, Charleston, SC, Baton Rouge, LA, and Houston, TX. In 2017, in response to Hurricane Irma, dozens of community partners hosted supply drives as part of Columbia Relief. Columbia Relief operates as a partnership between the City of Columbia, Richland and Lexington Counties, and dozens of institutional partners across the region.

We are currently seeking community partners to sign up to host supply drives. Columbia Relief will release the full list of venues, as well as a list of suggested donations, once the effects of the storm are known and needs are assessed.

After the storm hits and needs are clear, in coordination with the Governor’s Office and local authorities, we will move donated supplies where necessary and help deliver them to those affected.

We are not an emergency response effort. We exist to coordinate a second-step response, freeing up resources for crisis management officials and agencies.
