For the second year John Harris Body Shops have partnered with The Walker Foundation, the fundraising arm of the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind, to help raise the public’s awareness about the services provided by SCSDB while generating much needed school supplies for the classrooms. “We are excited to be involved, once again, with The Walker Foundation and the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind,” says owner John Harris, III. “We know personally the wonderful education and enrichment programs that are provided by the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind since we have employees who attended SCSDB. We are honored to have the chance to give something back,” continued Harris.
“It takes a lot of supplies for our classrooms,” says Ann Akerman, CEO of The Walker Foundation. “The donations of school supplies are so important for our teachers and our students here at the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind,” Akerman continued.

The Walker Foundation & SCSDB
The Walker Foundation was established more than 34 years ago as a nonprofit organization for the sole purpose of raising public funds to help support the programs and services of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB). It is the only school in the state that is specialized for students who are deaf and/or blind. The main campus is located in Spartanburg, but the school serves students throughout the state with its campus outreach programs. The Walker Foundation works to secure resources to help support the programs and services provided by SCSDB. Through education, we seek to build understanding, acceptance, and support for children with a vision and/or hearing impairment. For more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview with Ann Akerman, please call 864-577-7583 or e-mail at [email protected].
