Community and County Agencies Unite in Mourning Tragic Loss of Firefighter in Clinton Fire Department Crash

In a tragic turn of events, the Clinton community mourns the loss of one of its brave firefighters, Michael “Mike Mike” Vinson, who lost his life in the line of duty. The devastating incident occurred on Sunday, near Highway 72, at the intersection of Springdale Drive and Williard Road, sending shockwaves through the city and beyond.

Reports from the Laurens County Coroner’s Office indicate that a collision involving multiple vehicles, including a firetruck, claimed the life of 27-year-old Michael Vinson, a dedicated member of the Clinton Fire Department. Another firefighter, Nathan “Nate” Hall, sustained injuries and was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment.

Mayor Randy Randall expressed his condolences, stating, “Our hearts go out to the families affected by this tragic accident. Michael Vinson’s bravery and dedication to serving our community will always be remembered.”

The City of Clinton released a statement expressing sorrow over the tragic loss and assuring the public that investigations are underway. The South Carolina Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

There was a time of prayer for the Clinton City Fire Department firefighters and all of the families affected during this difficult time. The event was well attended by members of the community and surrounding agencies.

Vinson joined the Clinton Fire Department in May 2023 and before that was a member of the Laurens County Fire Service for three years. He was a volunteer firefighter for 7 years.
