Community Forum to Discuss New Cleanup Campaign along Broad River Road

COLUMBIA, SC – A cleaner commute is in store for travelers along the busy Broad River Road Corridor courtesy of a new beautification initiative.
A “Cleanup the Corridor Campaign” is being organized by the Richland County Neighborhood Improvement Program with the intent to raise community activism and reduce litter along the Broad River Road Corridor, focusing on the areas from Greystone Boulevard to St. Andrews Road.
“The Cleanup the Corridor Campaign was targeted for Broad River Road due to its position as a major commercial thoroughfare that serves businesses and residents,” said Neighborhood Planner Latoisha Green.
Additionally, the beautification effort for the Broad River Road Corridor is in line with the Master Plan drafted for the area, Green said.
Details about the Cleanup the Corridor Campaign, which is being funded through a grant from Palmetto Pride, will be presented at a community forum 6 p.m-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Richland Library St. Andrews, 2916 Broad River Road. Richland County Neighborhood Planning staff will provide information about the campaign, including how residents can take part in helping keep their neighborhoods litter free.
The Richland County Neighborhood Improvement Program has successfully initiated similar cleanup campaigns in other parts of the County, including sign sweeps to remove illegal signage.
“Cleanup campaigns are beneficial to communities in various ways,” Green said. “They encourage community participation from residents and businesses while creating an opportunity to discuss important neighborhood concerns that can increase the overall quality of life for everyone.”
