Conference to highlight Clemson’s city and regional planning program
October 19, 2011By Mary Catalonotto
CLEMSON, SC – October 19, 2011 – The South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association will focus on Clemson University at its 2011 fall conference in Anderson Oct. 20-21.
The theme of this year’s conference is “CU in the Upstate” in recognition of Clemson University’s city and regional planning program. The conference will offer sessions focused on Clemson-specific initiatives, including water policy, GIS mapping, student internships, public-private partnerships, new urbanism and professional ethics in planning. Other sessions will explore such topics as economic development in the Upstate, tourism and downtown revitalization.
“The graduate program in city and regional planning at Clemson University is the only graduate planning program in South Carolina and has an extensive alumni network within the state, said Cliff Ellis, the program director. Since the fall 2011 conference of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Planning Association is being held in Anderson, it seemed appropriate to adopt a conference theme that highlights the close connection between Clemson’s planning program and the community of professional planners in South Carolina. The conference will offer some great opportunities for planners to find out more about the research and teaching of the Clemson planning faculty.”
All events will be hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn Destination Pointe Event Center. The conference provides opportunities for practitioners, researchers and students to converge and examine innovative ideas for planning better cities and regions in South Carolina.
