Blitzen Trapper to Headline the Festival on April 11, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Congaree Riverkeeper announced the musician lineup for its fifth annual River Rocks Music Festival to be held on Saturday, April 11, 2014 at Riverfront Park in Columbia, S.C.

“Keeping with the same feel as past years, we put together a fresh and entertaining lineup of artists for 2015,” said Bill Stangler, Congaree Riverkeeper. “The lineup includes both national, regional and local South Carolina artists. Our headliner is Blitzen Trapper from Portland, Oregon.

Blitzen Trapper has been together playing experimental country/folk since 2000. Their 2008 album was ranked 13th on Rolling Stones list of albums from that year. They recently released a free (or pay what you will) download of “Live in Portland,” a 17-song disc recorded over three nights in the band’s hometown.

The lineup also includes The Heavy Pets, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida who will bring an intricate mix of rhythm and blues, jazz-funk, and reggae fusion with rock and roll. The Mantras are a go-for-broke live music act from Greensboro, NC that plays a high-energy collaboration of funk-rock, middle-eastern, electronica, and metal. Rounding out the lineup are two South Carolina bands, The Mustache Brothers from Columbia and She Returns from War from Charleston.

River Rocks is a unique festival experience combining a fantastic mix of independent music with a variety of activities. The intimate setting on the banks of the Broad River makes for a beautiful day outside with family and friends.

“This festival is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Stangler. “We work hard to plan a festival that makes for a fun and unique day on the riverfront.”

Protecting and improving our rivers is one of the goals of River Rocks and the host, Congaree Riverkeeper. Festival goers will have the opportunity to learn about river conservation through fun and educational activities.

“River Rocks is meant to celebrate our great rivers,” said Stangler. “Local outfitters will be offering canoeing, kayaking, and stand up paddle boarding opportunities on the Columbia Canal.”

River Rocks is on April 11th from Noon to 8pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and will be available online at riverrocksfestival.com and at several local businesses soon.
