Construction begins on Innovista (Greene Street) Phase One Project
May 12, 2015RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – The Richland Penny program, in partnership with the University of South Carolina and the City of Columbia, announced today the start of construction on the Innovista, Greene Street Phase One Project.
“We are thrilled to begin construction on one of many major projects under the Richland County Transportation Penny Program,” said Rob Perry, Richland County transportation director. “The start of this project represents the culmination of community and municipal partners working together in an effort to expedite a major project under the Richland Penny program.”
Phase One of the Innovista project includes constructing improvements to Greene Street, converting it from a four-lane and two-lane roadway to a three-lane roadway with sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes from Assembly Street to Gadsden Street. The centerpiece will be at the intersection of Greene Street and Lincoln Street and will feature an urban square in the vicinity of the Colonial Life Arena.
LAD Corporation is the contractor working on the project. Construction is scheduled for completion early summer of 2016.
