County Councilman Rankin is Recognized by SCGOP as Outstanding Young Republican
August 1, 2022The South Carolina Republican Party held their annual convention on Saturday, July 30 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia. On the agenda for the conference was the presentation of several awards before the business meeting. Nominations for the awards were accepted in advance of the meeting from across the state.
Luke Rankin who currently serves as chair for the Laurens County Republican Party was selected as the Outstanding Young Republican. Locally, Rankin is probably known more as County Councilman for District 2. In January 2021, Rankin was sworn in as one of the youngest members of Laurens County Council (if not the youngest). A lifelong Republican, Rankin comes from a large family and lives in the Hickory Tavern area of Laurens County.
“I’m humbled and grateful to be recognized with this award. If I’ve learned one thing since being thrown into politics, it’s this: God has put me where I am for a reason. This country is in desperate need of young men and women who will dare to stand for what is right. I’m thankful to have the opportunity of being an example for young people each and every day,” said Rankin. “I want to inspire my generation to know that their age should never hold them back from accomplishing their dreams. If God is in those dreams, embrace them! I cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for me in the years to come. The journey has already been amazing, but I feel this is just the beginning of something really incredible.”
For several years Rankin served as a Senior Relationship Banker for a bank in Laurens and just recently formed his own business, Rankin Insurance Services, LLC. His current term on County Council ends at the end of 2024.
