September 2, 2016

The County of Lexington Department of Public Safety announces several road closures throughout the County related to recent inclement weather generated by Tropical Storm Hermine and has moved into a partial activation of the County’s Emergency Operations Center.

The following County-maintained roads are closed at this time due to standing water on the roadway:

  • Sweet Pea Lane, from Mack Street to Gus Sturkie Road in Gaston
  • Kleckley Road, from Klapman Road to Sunset Boulevard in West Columbia
  • 1100 block of Jones Wire Road in Swansea
  • Railroad Avenue, from Freedom Road to Burton Road in Lexington

The County has experienced an estimated 3.5 inches of rainfall since the storm’s beginning Thursday evening. Two trees have fallen on homes, two trees have fallen on vehicles and one power line has been damaged due to a fallen tree. There have been no storm-related injuries reported in the County.

The County is in contact with the South Carolina Emergency Management Division, local municipalities and local school districts to ensure the safety of the County’s residents. We ask that residents stay indoors and off of the roadways if possible.

Lexington County officials will continue to monitor all weather conditions and roadways throughout Friday afternoon and into the evening. Officials are paying close attention to all low-lying areas and flood-prone neighborhoods, especially those that experienced flooding during the October Rain Event.
