County’s new HOME Program offering grant assistance for affordable housing projects

Berkeley County is hosting an informational workshop this month about its new Homeownership Development Program, an initiative to help fund construction of affordable housing projects throughout the County. Funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the program is part of the County’s new Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program.
The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at the Berkeley County Administration Building’s Assembly Room, located at 1003 N. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner. **Developers who are interested in learning more about the HOME and Home Development programs and how to apply for funding for an affordable housing construction project are encouraged to register.**
Pre-registration is required for workshop attendance and must be done HERE by Monday, July 22, 2024 at noon. Attendance is mandatory for developers wishing to apply.
This is the first year Berkeley County has offered HOME funding and is set to receive the grant money from HUD annually going forward. The program “funds a wide range of activities including building, buying, and/or rehabilitating affordable housing for rent or homeownership or providing direct rental assistance to low-income people,” according to hud.gov.
