Crayton Middle redesignated as National School to Watch
January 20, 2026Crayton Middle School has been redesignated as a School to Watch for the third time by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform.
Crayton received its School to Watch designation in 2017 and was redesignated in 2020 and 2023. A School to Watch designation lasts three years and schools must apply for redesignation.
“Being redesignated for the third time as a School to Watch is an incredible honor. This achievement reflects the strength of our entire school community. Teachers, students, parents and community partners consistently demonstrate their dedication to our school success,” said Crayton Principal Angela Burns.
To be selected as a School to Watch, schools need to have:
- Academic Excellence – A curriculum that is rigorous, innovative and relevant to the real world.
- Developmental Responsiveness – All students have a safe, healthy and personalized learning environment that is responsive to their unique needs and interests.
- Social Equity – All students have access to high-quality classes and the support they need to achieve at high levels.
- Organizational Structures – Shared leadership, collaborative learning communities, targeted professional development and effective organizational processes and structures are in place.
Crayton is one of two Richland One middle schools designated as a School to Watch. Hand Middle School received its designation in 2024.
