Cross Hill Mural Project Launches with Community Support

July 17, 2024

The Cross Hill community gathered last week to kick off an exciting new mural project that aims to bring a vibrant splash of color and history to the town. The project, spearheaded by local organizer Suzanne Golden, saw a successful meet-up with nine enthusiastic participants ready to contribute to the initiative.

“We’re thrilled by the community’s response and can’t wait to see this project come to life,” said Golden. “This mural will not only beautify our town but also celebrate our unique heritage.”

The mural, which will adorn a 20’ by 20’ wall, will be designed by artist Janette Marvin. Marvin is seeking input from the community to create mockups that reflect the town’s spirit and history. Jeff from J&R Painting is prepared to start the necessary preparation work for the mural’s installation.

Funding for the mural will come from a variety of sources, including individual donors, local businesses, and potentially the town and Laurens County. Organizers are also looking for support in several areas to ensure the project’s success:

  • Lift or Scaffolding Donation: A lift or scaffolding is needed for the mural’s installation.
  • Non-Profit Partnership: The project seeks a non-profit partner to handle official funds.
  • Business Outreach: Volunteers are needed to approach business owners once the town council approves the project.
  • Reveal Party/Fundraiser Planning: Volunteers are needed to organize a reveal party and fundraiser.
  • Fundraiser Ideas: Creative ideas for fundraising are welcome.
  • T-Shirt Committee: Volunteers are needed for the production and presale of project-related t-shirts.
  • Sign Maker: A sign maker is needed to create a ‘coming soon’ sign to be displayed on the wall after it’s prepped.
  • GoFundMe Setup: Someone to establish and manage a GoFundMe campaign for donations
  • Historical Photos: Contributions of pictures of historical buildings in Cross Hill are encouraged.

The next meeting for the Cross Hill Mural Project will be on Friday, July 19 at 7 pm at 1943 Morse Landing Road in Cross Hill. Community members are encouraged to join the Facebook group, Friends of Cross Hill Mural, to stay updated and provide input on all aspects of the project.

With community support and involvement, the Cross Hill Mural Project promises to be a beacon of local pride and artistic expression, celebrating the past while painting a brighter future.
