COLUMBIA, SC – January 11, 2010 – With the unemployment rate steadily increasing in South Carolina, many taxpayers are finding it hard to meet their basic needs. D. The Unemployment Discount applies to those still unemployed at the time the tax services are provided. This discount will be available at D. Hart Accounting Practitioner, LLC’s main office located at 2243 Leaphart Road Unit E West Columbia, SC 29169, Tax Refund Station locations or through our Tax by Fax program through February 28, 2010.

Our goal is to educate as many taxpayers as possible, even if we don’t prepare their taxes here. We like to help the unemployed taxpayers save on their tax prep and take advantage of the unemployment tax break. She adds anyone who received unemployment income last year must report the compensation on their tax return. However, the first $2400 of the compensation will be tax free.
To get the 50% discount, the taxpayer must provide the form 1099-G for tax year 2009 as well as documentation that he or she is still unemployed at the time the tax return is prepared. If filing a married filing joint return, the primary wage-earner must be unemployed to qualify for the discount. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other discount and is available only for income tax preparation fees for individual (non-business) tax returns.
With the extension of unemployment benefits, it may be necessary for taxpayers to have taxes taken out of weekly checks. This will avoid someone owing money for next year.
