Dating Advice: Dear Debby and Jerry
September 27, 2013September 27, 2013
Dear Debby and Jerry,
I’ve just started online dating and am finding it pretty interesting. However, I am having trouble getting to know perfect strangers. I try asking questions but am not very good at it. Any suggestions on how to get to know someone without being too nosy?
Larry, Chapin, SC
Dear Larry,
It’s always a challenge to get to know someone. Let’s face it, some of us are better at it than others. There’s usually a bit of awkwardness at first, but just relax and have fun and little by little you will get to know your new gal. Here is a link to a great e-harmony ice breaker which involves asking your date five questions. Some of them are funny and will let you get an idea of her sense of humor. Give it a try, it just might be fun.

Dear Debby and Jerry,
I admit it — I am 64 years old. Is it possible to meet someone at my age? I lost my husband but I did not lose my spirit. I may be a bit old-fashioned, because I do not know how to date. Can I meet someone who is like me? Sex is not at the top of my list — friendship is there. How do I manage this dating scene when I have different values than most of those out there? Help me, please.
Diana, Santa Fe, New Mexico
Dear Diana,
Of course it’s possible to meet someone your age! There are many people out there just like you, looking for friendship first and foremost. If things go beyond that, you deal with it then. Old-fashioned and spirited is a great attitude, just remember to be open to new ideas and ways of thinking. Sex does not need to be at the top of your list, either. Kindness, empathy, values, morality, and that spirit are what a lot of men are looking for. Do not give up, you will eventually find a kind and decent gentleman, and who knows where that may go. Life’s surprises can be quite wonderful!
