Dear Debby and Jerry: Advice on Dating in a New World

July 19, 2013

Dear Debby and Jerry,

I met Mr. Right online about four weeks ago. In so many ways he’s truly just that — Mr. Right! He’s a gentleman, he’s self-sufficient, he’s had a family and now just wants to travel, have fun, and experience what else life has to offer. The only problem is that he is not greatly endowed and not only does it bother him, but it does not inspire me, either. Ladies out there will agree that there is a point where this issue can affect your relationship. Please help me to get around something I know shouldn’t be hard to work around (no pun intended).

Dear Missy,

Thank you for bringing this delicate topic to our attention. I do understand your misgivings, but I think you should consider the other factors involved in the relationship. You say that he is wonderful, kind, self-sufficient, and wants to enjoy life and travel. In short, you called him Mr. Right. It seems to me there are many great qualities on the plus side, and only one in the minus column. You have to decide if that one factor is important enough to throw away what seems like a wonderful relationship. However, if you feel strongly, be honest, move on, and let him meet someone who thinks he is wonderful in every way.

Dear Readers,

Please take a look at this study from Huffington Post.

Dear Readers,

About a month ago we received a letter from Allen and one of our readers responded.

There’s no doubt that the excuses offered Allen for a last-minute cancellation were flimsy at best! Our anonymous reader came up with another reason for the last minute cancellation. Read on and enjoy his answer.

Dear Debby and Jerry,

I am on several online dating sites and have met a fair amount of women. I’ve had an overall good experience but there is one issue that bothers me and some of my friends.  A number of women cancel first dates at the last minute, and I mean 20-30 minutes before the date.  Now, maybe men do this too, but I don’t know. It’s usually a text and it’s always something very dramatic, and most of the time involves animals. A few examples I have gotten are A wild boar killed (and I assume ate) my cat last night or My best friend’s dog ate a dead rat and is sick. I wasn’t born yesterday, and to my knowledge there are no wild boars where I live, and is your best friend’s dog a really good reason to cancel a date at the last minute? Anyway, it is what it is, but I want to know why they do this and how I can prevent it from happening again.

Reader’s Response:

Sounds like Allen’s date is showing up to take an early look at him and deciding he does not do his pictures justice.
