Denmark Technical College celebrates 10th cohort of electrical lineworker graduates
November 18, 2025Denmark Technical College proudly marked a major milestone as it celebrated the graduation of its 10th cohort of electrical lineworkers. The ceremony, held at the James W. Bowden Sr. Lineworker Range, honored the hard work, perseverance and achievements of the newest graduates of one of the college’s fastest-growing workforce development programs.
Since its launch in 2022, the Electrical Lineworker Program has transformed lives by equipping more than 50 participants with the specialized skills, safety training and industry certifications needed to enter one of the nation’s most vital and rewarding career fields. The program’s mission to increase representation within the energy sector and create ethical access to high-demand opportunities continues to resonate across South Carolina and beyond.

Industry representatives from (names pending) and other key organizations attended the ceremony to support the graduates and reaffirm their commitment to helping Denmark Tech strengthen the skilled workforce pipeline. The event featured remarks from college leaders and partners, a presentation of certificates and a live demonstration showcasing the graduates’ technical mastery and teamwork.
“The electrical lineworker program at Denmark Technical College represents the very best of what we do,” said Eric Brown, Ph.D., president and CEO of Denmark Technical College. “Our students gain the skills, confidence and sense of purpose to succeed in industries that keep our world running. These graduates embody our mission to engage, educate and empower, and we could not be prouder of their success.”
Shelby Simmons, director of workforce development and continuing education, said the program’s impact is visible across the region. “Each graduate is a reflection of Denmark Tech’s dedication to workforce readiness and community advancement,” Simmons said. “We see firsthand how this training changes lives, opening doors for meaningful employment and strengthening the state’s infrastructure.”
Notable alumnus James W. Bowden Sr., retired vice president of Duke Energy, president of the Denmark Technical College National Alumni Association and a member of the DTC Area Commission, attended the ceremony to celebrate the milestone and personally congratulate the graduates.
“This program is about empowering individuals to break barriers and pave the way for a more inclusive industry,” said Bowden. “To see these graduates achieve this milestone at the range that bears my name is truly humbling. They carry forward a legacy of excellence that defines Denmark Tech.”
Assistant Vice President for Industrial Related Technology and Workforce Development Hadi Hamid highlighted the importance of partnerships that make the program possible. “Our collaboration with industry leaders ensures students are trained to meet real-world demands,” Hamid said. “This program demonstrates how education and industry can work hand in hand to build a stronger, more prepared workforce.”
For graduate Kentrell Foster the program opened the door to a stable and rewarding career path. “Before coming to Denmark Tech, I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to take,” Foster said. “This program gave me purpose and the skills to build a solid foundation for my future.”
The 10th cohort includes Calvin Bailey, Darrion Butler, Nicolas Butler, Kentrell Foster and Klayton Zissett.
With an emphasis on safety, technical expertise and professionalism, Denmark Tech’s lineworker program continues to provide students with pathways to sustainable employment and long-term success. Graduates enter a field that powers communities and supports the growth of industries across the region, contributing to economic strength and opportunity for generations to come.
