Denmark Technical College students earn $15,000 scholarships at inaugural Thurgood Marshall College Fund Workforce Development Summit
February 20, 2025Two Denmark Technical College students, Ra’Niyah Daniels and Kawonna Maple, were each awarded the Cal & Annette Johnson Scholarship, valued at $15,000, at the inaugural Thurgood Marshall College Fund Workforce Development Summit in Birmingham, Alabama. The scholarships, announced at the conclusion of the summit, will provide significant support as these students continue their academic pursuits.
The TMCF Workforce Development Summit brought together students from nine member schools, offering students a chance for two-year HBCU students to connect with top employers, explore industry trends and gain career insights. Workshops and career fair sessions provided valuable professional development and networking opportunities, which Daniels and Maple found particularly impactful.
“This experience has been life changing. The summit not only provided me with an incredible scholarship but also allowed me to gain insight into industry trends and connect with mentors. I’m excited for the future and deeply grateful for this opportunity,” said Daniels.
The summit provided a platform for students to learn directly from industry leaders and professionals, giving them valuable experience and insights into the skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce.
“This scholarship and the summit have been game changers for me. The opportunity to connect with professionals and learn about the latest trends in my field has been invaluable. I’m more motivated than ever to push forward in my studies and career path and I’m incredibly thankful for the experience,” said Maple.
“We’re thrilled to see our students succeed at such a distinguished event. The scholarships and the experiences they gained at the summit will help guide them as they continue in their educational journeys,” added Rhonda Cummings, Denmark Technical College academic champion
“The summit gave me the chance to learn from industry experts, interact with potential employers and gain invaluable skills. Seeing Ra’Niyah and Kawonna succeed in such a competitive environment reinforces how valuable these experiences are for all of us at DTC,” said J’Shawn Stukes, president of the DTC Student Government Association.

Ra’Niyah and Kawonna’s success reflects the remarkable potential of our students at Denmark Technical College, who consistently demonstrate resilience, ambition and a commitment to excellence. Opportunities like these reinforce the incredible value of the well-rounded education DTC provides and the bright future that lies ahead for our students.
