Dent Middle School Celebrates Two Law Related Education Awards

May 14, 2014

Tim-HicksCOLUMBIA, SC – Dent Middle School is receiving two awards from the South Carolina Bar Law Related Education (LRE) Division.  Dent was named the 2014 LRE Middle School of the Year and teacher Tim Hicks (pictured right) was named the 2014 LRE Middle School Teacher of the Year.

Dent has competed in the S.C. Bar Mock Trial Program for more than 20 years and recently completed its second year in the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program. Hicks was selected because of his ability to communicate a deep respect for the law to a far-reaching group of students. He has worked with the Middle School Mock Trial Program for 15 years and his teams consistently compete well at the regional competitions and have advanced to the state level numerous times.

The award comes with $500 and $2,500 in non-designated funds for Hicks and Dent, respectively. The awards will be presented June 6 at the school. This is the first time the school of the year and teacher of the year are from the same school.

The S.C. Bar LRE Division, which was developed to improve the ability of teachers to instruct law related education, has been part of the S.C. Bar since 1976.
