Derek Phillips joins District Five

IRMO, SC – Derek Phillips joins School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties as a Public Information Specialist. Phillips started his career in journalism at WACH FOX News here in Columbia. He has been a mainstay at WACH FOX as a writer, reporter and sports anchor for the last five years.

During his time at WACH FOX, Phillips covered memorable South Carolina sporting events and was known for his fair, balanced and detailed reporting. His impact was felt far beyond sports as he reported on other historical and cultural events in the Midlands. He was also a contributor for sports radio station 107.5FM.

When asked about the move to Lexington-Richland, Five Phillips said, “I am extremely excited about this new opportunity to work for District Five. My favorite part about spending the previous five years in TV news was telling stories and I cannot wait to tell the great story about the students and teachers here in District Five.”
