Dig Greenville hosts Face of the Drill design competition

July 19, 2017

Upstate children have the chance to make their mark on the future of Greenville’s infrastructure during Dig Greenville’s Face of the Drill contest, in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System (GHS).

Patients are invited to design a face for the cartoon rendering of the drill that will be used to bore a tunnel through downtown Greenville for Renewable Water Resources (ReWa)’s Dig Greenville wastewater conveyance improvement project. The cartoon drill will serve as an education and outreach mascot for the duration of the Dig Greenville project, encouraging residents to learn about the updates and improvements to Greenville’s infrastructure happening beneath their feet.

The winner of the contest will have their artwork featured on much of the Dig Greenville promotional materials, and will be announced during GHS Children’s Hospital’s Radiothon 2017. Radiothon is an annual fundraiser for GHS Children’s Hospital hosted by Entercom Upstate, and will take place August 3 and 4 on all Entercom stations.

“We are excited to partner with GHS for this contest and engage the creativity of the future of Greenville, because that’s really who this project is for,” said Ashley Rhinehart, Public Relations Coordinator for ReWa. “We are designing the future of Greenville’s infrastructure, and we want future generations to be a part of that.”

The Dig Greenville project is a wastewater conveyance project that will feature a roughly one-mile long gravity sewer tunnel that will be 100 feet below ground. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2018.
