District Five Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Middle School

CHAPIN, SC — Lexington-Richland School District Five held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 29 for its new middle school.
District officials say the new school in Chapin will help maintain good class sizes, prepare for the ongoing growth in enrollment and maintain existing academic excellence. The school, which will serve seventh and eighth graders, is slated to open in the fall of 2015.
District Five Board Chair Beth Watson said, “This groundbreaking represents a commitment to quality education and great learning. We understand that smaller classrooms are a major key, and with the support of the community in building this new school…we will continue to excel in academics and prepare our students for the future.
District Five Superintendent Dr. Stephen Hefner added, “This is another great milestone moment in the history of Lexington-Richland School District Five. This facility is certainly needed. We are experiencing a lot of growth in this segment of our school district. And in order for us to maintain the desired levels of student-teacher ratios and the quality of facilities that are essential to the success of a school, this is absolutely necessary. We’re just so grateful it’s becoming a reality.”
The new District Five middle school, which has not yet been named, is the final project of the 2008 Bond Referendum.
