Dominion Energy representatives recently collaborated with Richland School District Two educators during a district inservice professional learning day to discuss critical career opportunities and the essential job skills students need for future employment. College and career specialists within the district gained valuable insights into the array of roles available at Dominion Energy, increasing their capacity to guide students effectively.
Brandon Ashley (pictured above), Vice President of Transmission and Delivery at Dominion Energy in South Carolina, emphasized the strategic importance of early engagement. “We highlighted the real-world skills necessary to be a successful candidate and identified actionable ways we can partner with teachers in the classroom to inform, guide, and develop students’ career interests,” Ashley stated. “Reaching students early, while they have access to valuable Richland Two programs, is the key to building a successful foundation for their careers.”
Jenniferr Cain is Director of College & Career Initiatives in Richland Two. “It is important that our teachers have the opportunity to hear from business/industry experts and gain insight about skills and competencies students need to continue to better prepare our students for current and emerging careers,” said Cain.
Dominion Energy offers a diverse range of technical and non-technical careers that high school graduates, especially those with relevant certifications or vocational training, can pursue. Positions include line workers, electrical and mechanical technicians, engineers, environmental specialists, information technology professionals, and customer service representatives.
Many of these roles are available to students directly out of high school or with short-term technical training or apprenticeships. Dominion Energy leaders emphasized that students who demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, attention to safety, teamwork, technical aptitude, and a commitment to continuous learning are well-positioned for success in these careers.
