Dorchester County Delinquent Tax sale

July 26, 2022

The Dorchester County Delinquent Tax Collector’s Office has started the process of having signs placed on properties for unpaid property taxes. This posting is required by state law for those taxpayers who have not paid their 2021 property taxes. Prior to posting, tax payers have received a tax bill from the Treasurer’s Office and two notices from the Delinquent Tax Office. Prior to sale, properties that are still delinquent will be advertised for sale by printing the names of the taxpayers in two Dorchester County newspapers starting Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

The tax sale will take place October 31, 2022, at Lovely Hill Convention Center located at 5905 West Jim Bilton Blvd., St. George, SC, at 10:00 AM. Registration is required and may be completed on our website or in person at our office located at 201 Johnston Street, St. George, SC. Registration will open one week prior to the sale. There will be no bidder registration the day of the sale. A list of unpaid properties will be on our website with a locator map. The list will be available on October 1, 2022, and will be updated daily.

Residents may pay delinquent taxes by personal check until September 2, 2022. You may also use a debit/credit card (a 2.35% convenience fee is charged), pay with cash, or certified funds until October 28, 2022, at 5:00 PM. The Office does not recognize postmarks. Payment must be made in our office by 5:00 PM on October 28, 2022, and no payments will be collected the day of the sale.

There is only one Dorchester County Delinquent Tax Collector’s Office located at 201 Johnston Street, St. George, SC 29477. When inquiring about your tax bill, please have the TMS# (parcel# Tax map#) for real estate and the sticker or decal number for mobile homes.
